It never got so bad that I wanted to stop reading, but a few times I couldn't help thinking that things should pick up a bit because some scene was boring me. At the same time, I almost think that if EVERY scene had something exciting happen, I'd get very tired and wouldn't care about whatever was happening. The Naming is pretty long, and action-action-action every chapter would be a little overwhelming.

So I guess the action-inaction balance is pretty decent one. And the action bits really do make up for the inaction bits, so don't let the prospect of slow parts keep you from reading The Naming. (You could always just skim over them, I suppose.)

Looks like a good book. However I am a little disappointed to hear that there is quite a bit of inactivity. I too have a hard time reading books that that aren't quick paced. This is probably the reason why I read a lot of fantasy fiction books. A lot of them are action packed... for example, I am currently reading "Sea Clearwater" by Selene Cardenas and love the fact that nearly every chapter contains important and exciting events! Without the action I get lost.
