Who: Me, to one (1) randomly chosen lucky winner. International entries are welcome.
What: One (1) used copy of Kirsten Kelly’s new book, Halith. Here is a summary:

Halíth presents the fantastical world of Aessyra where prophesy tells of an evil brewing and only “the One” can stop it. Halíth’s journey begins when she steals away from an impending marriage to a fat merchant, deemed by her uncle to be a good match. In a fit of passion, she runs away in the deep of night, with nothing to her name, and is soon transformed from a scared 16 year old girl to a young warrior ready to answer her fate. In the beginning, Halíth embraces her new adventurous lifestyle focusing on fighting battles, learning the trades of the Dwarves, and drinking and making merriment in local taverns. Soon; however, Halíth’s true test of maturity comes when the Great War finally breaks out across Aessyra. The Haddu, a coalition of Orcs, trolls, and others faithful to a demonic religion, are swarming over the land, seeking to usher in the Third Darkness. Halith must grapple with challenges within and without as she dodges assassins, endures the betrayal of those closest to her, and tries to make sense of her so-called “destiny.”

Thursday Tea Thursday Tea is a weekly meme hosted by yours truly. To play along, all you need is some tea, a book, and the answers to these questions: what tea are you drinking (and do you like it)? What book are you reading (and do you like it)? Tell us a little about your tea and your book, and whether or not the two go together.

I’m feeling a little crappy this morning, so a short TTea post today.

The book: Today I’m finishing up Virginia Woolf’s The Waves, which I don’t love but I don’t hate, either. It’d be pretty hard to top To the Lighthouse or Orlando, which I really, really loved, but The Waves isn’t bad. I think it’s just bogged down by the technique Ms Woolf uses, where everything is something that a character “said” instead of a direct narrative thingy. And since all the voices of the characters sound the same, and nothing important really happens, it makes for rather dry reading.

On the other hand, Ms Woolf can turn the best phrases I have ever read, and it is for that reason I kept reading The Waves. I’ve got more to say, but I’ll save it for a proper review sometime next week.

The tea coffee: I desperately needed more coffee this morning, so I got a cup from Starbucks (I have a gift card). I still prefer Satellite’s coffee to Starbucks’, but hey. Gift card. Free coffee!

Do they go together? Well, the coffee is a stimulant, and as I tend to star blurring over Ms Woolf’s prose after a while, I need the stimulant to keep me focused. *cough* But does it go with the actual story? Not really. I think wine would, though, or a stout beer. It’s not really a tea sort of book, actually.

What are you drinking/reading this Thursday?
