Book Blogger Hop Thought I might as well try doing the Book Blogger Hop at least once! Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Jennifer of Crazy for Books, where bloggers visit each other from Friday to Monday, answering questions and generally being friendly people.

To everyone stopping by my blog for the first time: hello! I’m Anastasia, and while I started out as a mostly YA book blogger I have since branched out in nearly every other genre out there, although I still can’t enjoy paranormal romance as much as everyone else seems to. If you have time, feel free to check out some of my reviews I’ve post this week: Grey (sci-fi), Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (play), and The Prisoner of Zenda (action/romance). I also have a discussion post going on here about favorite books written before 1923– a somewhat transparent plea for recommendations of books I can download for free to my Kindle.

Here’s this week’s BBH question:

When you write reviews, do you write them as you are reading or wait until you have read the entire book?

I wait until I’ve read the entire book, although I do try to take notes/mark specific passages so I refer back to them when I write my review. Lately I’ve been thinking of specific phrases and things I want to include in my review– before I’ve finished the book! I need to write them down, though, because I always almost forget them by the time I actually write the review. That’s unfortunately, because some of those sentences are really good. (I get my best ideas in the shower!)

How do you write your reviews?

  1. Hopping through. Wanted to let you know that Anastasia is one of my favorite names!
    My Hop

  2. I wait until I’m done with the entire book. When it comes to passages or sentences I want to quote, I mark it with a Post-It note as I read–after I’m done, I add them into my commonplace book. It’s a useful way to go back through the novel before sitting down to write my review.

  3. Just hopping by to say hello. Nice to have met you, I’ve enjoyed my visit.

  4. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I do reviews exactly the same way- unless there are no really good passages to make note of, LOL.

  5. Happy Hop! I also wait until I’ve finished reading the book before I start the review. I also use any notes of insight I had to help. Works good for me,

    HOP by and visit

  6. Love your blog title :)

I have come to the conclusion I need to take more notes when reading!

  7. Sometimes I have to wait a bit to write my review and like you the inspiration comes to me at random times – like in the shower! I have had that happen.

  8. Just hopping in! I also wait until the book is done before reviewing. I like to get the whole picture the author was going for, rather than just my initial reaction.

  9. just hopping by! i like to wait until the book is over also before reviewing.

  10. Hello, Happy Friday!

  12. I wait until I’ve read the whole book, but I might write the odd note as I read. :)

  13. Just hopping by…I love the name Anastasia, too; I so enjoyed my period of reading Russian novels, and that name cropped up a lot.
