Thinking Back
June was the BEST month. I know I say that about basically every month, but I really do mean it– book-wise, at least. Book-wise my months are all great; real-life wise…not so much. (Not that my real life is HORRIBLE. But it’s not as good as my book life is.)
Anyway, June got a little shaky in the middle, true, but I pulled myself out of my reading/blogging slump and I think I’ve gotten recharged now. I think winning five book contests and a LibraryThing Early Reviewer book helped with that, to be honest. I must just be FULL OF LUCK this summer! Yes?
Besides the bump and the contests, I also did some fun blogosphere-y type things. I did my first blog tour! I did another judging stint for Nerds Heart YA! I have a contest going on! Yay! I haven’t really got anything going on in July except for a guest post thing at another blog, but I’m sure something else will pop up that I can join.
And finally, I fiddled with some stuff on the blog. There’s a Google Friend Connect widget at the bottom of the right-hand sidebar. I don’t know how popular it’ll be, but I know some people like it so why not. There’s also some smaller (and thus cheaper) ad spots available in the right sidebar. Check it out if you’re interested– you don’t have to be an author/publisher/whatever to advertise, either! Just something bookish.
Goals for July
In July I’m going to try and keep my bookish spirit up, so I’m going to read one book every day. They’ll probably be short books, obviously, but since I have a ton of YA books from BEA I have to get through I think I can do it. I’m guessing I’ll probably get distracted again by online games somewhere around the halfway mark, but I’m making it my goal to read at least 20 books this month. That’ll leave me some room to occasionally indulge in the internet.
I also want to finish at least one audiobook, as I haven’t gotten one under my belt for…a really long time. Last year? Can’t remember. I got a hold of some Doctor Who audiobooks the other month, so maybe I’ll do them.
Also, as I’m going to California with the folks sometime in the last half of the July, this means two things:
1. I’ll get to pick out vacation books (again). Yay!
2. I’ll probably go on a tiny blogging vacation.
I think going on blog vacations is perfectly fine. Actually, I’d encourage it. I think a blogging/internet break every other month is a great thing to do– you get a break from thinking up new content AND you don’t have to worry about what’s happening in the blogging world.
