Trying out a shortened monthly review format, this month. Because I don’t want to write a million things! So there.

GOALS FOR APRIL: keep working on my review style,1 finish putting all my eTBR books into my LibraryThing account,2 catch up on writing my reviews,3 go to the LA Times Festival of Books for at least one day4, finish reading the Chaos Walking trilogy and also the Abhorsen trilogy. Continue reading »

Thinking Back

Usually by the beginning of March I’ve either completely given up any goals I had for the new year or I’m going strong– currently, I’m going pretty strong! I’m a little behind on my reading but otherwise I think I’m doing pretty good. I took blogging/reading breaks when I wanted to, kept up with my reviews, and I even read three chunksters. Yay!

Some nice stuff happened in February. I turned 24! I got a new iPod Touch, to replace the one I lost in January. I love the little camera, especially with Instagram’s filters. I also got new glasses, WAY BETTER glasses than the ones I had before. I love them! They’ve got shimmery things in the frames that make my eyes look really good. I donated about 10 books to a charity. And I finally figured out the best way to pack my stuff so that moving to a new hotel doesn’t cause me undue stress.

My March goals are:

  • fiddle with the layout a little bit. Just spruce it up somehow. New color scheme, maybe?
  • read and review at least one non-classic public domain book.
  • write those two review book reviews from January before I forget everything about those books.

Also, I’m trying out something slightly different for my monthly review. It usually takes SO LONG to put together one of these and I’m not even sure how useful some of the stuff I put in here is, so I decided to mix it up a bit. Let me know what you think!

Fun in the Sun on Florida's Miracle Strip

Thinking Back

January 2012 is probably going down in history as the weirdest and most uncomfortable January I’ve ever had. Blogging was pretty much the same as it ever was– it’s the stuff outside of blogging that was strange and a little bit yucky. And exciting, too, I suppose!

So what happened? I moved from New Mexico to California, for one. I’ve been living in hotels for the past month. I’ve had issues with things being sent back in the mail and not showing up and causing me heartbreak. I’ve broken out in hives from mysterious circumstances (stress? mosquito bites? something else?). I’ve ate enough continental breakfasts to make anyone sick and I’ve learned how to make tasty meals with only a microwave and a mini-fridge.  Continue reading »

January 2011 is such a long time ago it seems nearly impossible. What was I even doing in January? Besides panicking about jobs and going on vacation? I think I had a lot of ideas to do on the blog, and I may have done some of them, but I didn’t keep track of what I wanted to do and what I did very well, unfortunately.

Anyway! For 2012 I basically…want to keep reading like I did in 2011? I like that I read a lot of books written by women, and that I read a lot of different genres. I’d like to read more books starring characters who are something other than straight white Western people, and I’d like to read a few more non-fiction books. I’d also like to read more chunksters! Normally I stay away from them because they take so long for me to read, and when it takes me a long time to read a book I start getting antsy. I’d like to get over that feeling and enjoy a chunkster or two this year. Maybe…three?

If I can keep myself in this new, slightly calmer mindset I think 2012 will be a great year for blogging! Yay! Continue reading »

Peggy Bacon in mid-air backflip, Bondi Beach, Sydney, 6/2/1937 / by Ted Hood

Thinking Back

Holy crap was December a stressful month! And I’m still stressed out now, and I think that’s affecting my view of December. The beginning of the month was great! I was reading a lot, and blogging a good amount, and then the thing with my domain temporarily disappearing happened, and then I had to move. And then everything exploded into chaos! Girl with Book and Bench-Sitters in Fountain Square 07/1973

Thinking Back

I started off November with a clear purpose: to read at least one book a day for the whole month. Well, I didn’t end up doing that, but I DID read a lot more books this month than I thought I would!

Some other exciting things happened, too. It was my third blogoversary this month! I’ve been blogging for three years now; can you believe it? I also joined the Singapore National Library, which means I can check out lots of awesome ebooks (I’ll be writing a post about the SNL next week). I opened sign-ups for the Book Bloggers Holiday Card Exchange (emails will be going out on Saturday!). I got a set date on when we’re moving out of Albuquerque to SoCal! I got all caught up on my reviews. And I think I’ve pretty much finalized my blogging goals for 2012. Continue reading »

Collecting books for readers in the reserve stacks, 1964

Thinking Back

I think October went pretty much the way I wanted it to. I met my monthly reading goal, I did what I wanted re:posting reviews, and the 24 Hour Readathon went perfectly. So that’s nice! I also got a lot of good reading done this month, and I didn’t burn out on blogging at the end of it. Yay! Oh, and I cut my feedreader subscriptions down from 344 (or there abouts) to around 150. Huzzah! Continue reading »
