Rating Guide
Updated: May 29, 2011. The birds are back!
Please note that my ratings are entirely subjective, and especially note that two books rated the same thing may not actually be liked the same amount.
Basically, anything rated 3.5 and above is pretty much recommended reading[1], so don’t be discouraged if a book doesn’t get 4 birds or more.
5 birds = Loved it!
4 birds = Really liked it.
3 birds = Liked it.
2 birds = It was okay.
1 bird = It was pretty bad.
Half-birds = steps between ratings.

Old(ish) Rating Guide
From September 2010 to late May 2011, I had this rating system. It was good for a while and then I wanted the birds back. I needed more flexibility! Which is kind of ironic, since I originally got rid of them because they had too much flexibility. Ha.
Buy it
Borrow it
Bin it
Ratings were roughly equivalent to the bird system like so:
Buy it: 3.5-5
Borrow it: 2-3.5
Bin it: 0-1.5
Although a 2 bird book might be a “bin it” book, a 3.5 bird book might be a “borrow it” book, and so on. It’s a little wiggly around the half-bird mark.
Footnotes
1. “Recommended reading” basically means that if I saw you in person and I had the book in my hands, I’d push it off onto you and pretty much force you to read it right there. If it was a 3 bird book (or less), I might tell you about it, but I’d let you decide whether to read it or not. BACK
