This is an expansion of what’s on my Contact page.
Want me to review your book?
- I do accept review copies from publishers, publicists, and authors. Self-published books are fine, too.
- Formats: I accept ARCs, early finished copies, backlist books, and ebooks.
However, I will not accept PDF format. It doesn’t work well with my ebook reader and trying to get it to work gives me too much grief.I got a Sony Reader for Christmas, which can handle PDF format! You can send me whatever format you want now. I’ve got it covered. Ha! - Genres: I focus on YA fantasy, mostly, but I also read adult fantasy, YA and adult sci-fi, chick lit, horror, mystery, graphic novels, speculative fiction, action/adventure, mystery and, very occasionally, certain historical non-fiction. I generally do not like political anything, religious/spiritual anything, self-help/how-to, or erotica.
- I can’t guarantee that I will a) finish reading a book, b) like the book, or c) write a review quickly. If I can’t finish reading the book for whatever reason I won’t bother writing a review, but I will try to pass it on to another book reviewer for them to read. If I don’t like the book I will say so in my review, and I can’t guarantee I’ll be gentle or kind (though I’ll try to be tactful). I’ll try very hard to always write a review for each book I read within
twofour weeks of reading it, but actually getting to that point might take me a while, like I said earlier. - I will generally post a review of an upcoming book the day before it’s released, unless you specifically ask me to post it on a different date.
- After I finish a book I’ll probably keep it if I like it. If I don’t like it, or if I don’t finish it, I’ll try to give it to someone else who I think would enjoy it.
My reviewing process
- I generally review at least three books a week, sometimes more if I’m feeling frisky.
- A lot of my reviewed books end up being 3 birds or more– this is because I tend to know what kinds of books I like to read and I don’t keep reading a book I’m not enjoying unless it’s very short. In rare cases I will write a review for a book I didn’t finish reading, normally after I’ve spent a significant amount of time trying to like it and failing.
- My reviews are in no way influenced by the source of the book, whether I bought it myself or got it from a publisher.
- Exposure: Generally, the books I read/review will have at least two points of exposure on my blog: once in the review itself and once in my sidebar under “currently reading.” Depending on when I’m reading a book, it may also be listed in my weekly meme “Thursday Tea.” Off my blog, my review normally gets posted to LibraryThing and Amazon.
- You may also want to check out my reviews that I’ve posted already.
More Stuff
- I do not receive any compensation for any review that appears on this blog.
- I am a member of two affiliate programs: Amazon and Indiebound. Pretty much every link directing to those two sites will be under my affiliate username. I do get a small amount of money if you end up buying a book using my links; at the moment I’ve made about…$8.
- Starting October 2009, all reviews will have a “source” notation at the top, with the rest of the book info. “Publisher/author” means I got a review copy from one of those sources, “library” means I checked the book out (for free) from one of my local libraries, and “bought” means I bought the book myself.
I think that’s everything. If you have a question or want me to go into more detail about something, feel free to email me.
