Review Policy

Revised last: January 2, 2012

NOTE: I will not be accepting paper books until late January/early February. I’m moving and won’t be settled down until then (probably). Ebooks are STRONGLY PREFERRED. I have a NetGalley account, so let me know if your book is available there!

YES

  • I like the following genres:
    - fantasy
    - sci-fi
    - mystery
    - “women’s fiction” i.e. chick lit, etc.
    - literary fiction
    - non-fiction (memoirs, travel, popular science)
  • I like adult and YA-age books best, but I can almost always get along with MG as well.
  • Galleys, ARCs, finished books, whatever– anything’s fine.
  • Ebooks in .mobi or .prc format are strongly preferred, as I have a Kindle. EPUB format is fine if it’s convertible. I do NOT like PDF format but…I can work with it if I must.
  • Re: self-published books: Books that were originally published through a traditional publisher and then re-released through the author are fine, other self-pub books are currently not.
  • I can do blog tours, guest posts, author interviews, or giveaways. I prefer to have read the book first before doing interviews or giveaways, just FYI.

NO

  • I do not accept self-published books for review, or any that have been published through POD services. See above for re-released backlist books.
  • I do not accept any books in these genres:
    - picture books
    - spiritual/religious
    - self-help/how-to
    - anything political (including political thrillers)
    - erotica
    - paranormal romance
    - romance in general

WHAT I CAN DO

  • Assuming I’ve received it in time and have read it, I will try to post a review of a book within a month of its publication. If it’s a backlist book it may take up to two-three months for me to read and review it.
  • If I can’t finish reading the book for whatever reason I won’t bother writing a review, but I will try to pass it on to another book reviewer for them to read.
  • As well as my blog, I can also post reviews to LibraryThing, Amazon and/or Goodreads if so desired. Just let me know.
  • Books I’m currently reading will be featured in at least two places: in the right sidebar under “currently reading” and in my weekly Sunday Salon posts. I’ll probably also talk about them on Twitter.
  • On books I don’t want to keep: ARCs will be given to other reviewers to read after the publication date. Ebooks will be deleted after I’ve read them (or given up on reading them). Finished books will either be given away to other reviewers or donated to the library.

WHAT I CAN’T DO

  • I can’t guarantee that I will a) finish reading a book, b) like the book, or c) write a review quickly.

FTC

  • I do not receive any compensation for any review that appears on this blog.
  • I am a member of Amazon’s and Book Depository’s affiliate programs. Almost every link to Amazon/BD will be associated with my affiliate account. I get a small amount of money if you end up buying a book using my links; I use that money to buy more books.
  • Starting October 2009, all reviews will have a “source” notation at the top, with the rest of the book info. “Publisher/author” means I got a review copy from one of those sources, “library” means I checked the book out (for free) from one of my local libraries, and “bought” means I bought the book myself. If it was a freebie ebook it’ll say where I got it for free from, too.
